How to convert HEIC to JPG

FAQ
What is a HEIC file and why won’t it open?
HEIC is a photo saved in HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format). iPhones have used it as the default camera format since iOS 11 because it is smaller than JPG at the same quality. The downside is compatibility: Windows Photos without the HEIF extension, many upload forms and older software can’t read it, so you often need a JPG copy.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser and the photos never leave your device. In Chrome, Edge and Firefox the page downloads an open-source HEIC decoder (libheif) the first time — that is the converter program coming to you, not your photos going out.
Will converting to JPG reduce quality?
The default "Best" setting (JPG quality 0.92) is visually indistinguishable from the original for nearly all photos; the file is usually a bit larger than the HEIC. If you need zero loss, choose PNG, but expect files several times bigger. Use "Medium" or "Small" only when you need smaller files.
Does it keep GPS location and the date taken?
No. The JPGs are re-drawn without metadata, so location, camera model and capture date are removed. That is handy for privacy when you share photos, but keep the original HEIC files if you rely on the capture date to sort your library.
How many photos can I convert at once?
There is no limit. Photos are converted one after another, roughly 1–2 seconds each depending on your device. For several hundred photos, splitting them into a few batches is more reliable. "Download all" packs everything into one ZIP.
How do I open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows needs the "HEIF Image Extensions" (and for some photos "HEVC Video Extensions") from the Microsoft Store to open HEIC. If you just need the pictures in a format that works everywhere, converting them to JPG here is quicker and needs no install.
Can my iPhone take JPG photos instead of HEIC?
Yes. Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose "Most Compatible" — new photos will be saved as JPG (larger files). Also, Settings > Photos > "Transfer to Mac or PC" set to "Automatic" converts photos to JPG when you copy them over a cable. For photos you already took, convert them here.
Does it work with Live Photos or videos?
Only still photos are converted. A Live Photo copied to a computer becomes a HEIC image plus a short .MOV video; the HEIC becomes a JPG here and the .MOV is skipped. For burst photos stored in one HEIC, only the key photo is converted.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes, it works in Safari and Chrome on iPhone and Android. After converting, tap "Save to Photos" to open the share sheet and choose "Save Image". On Android, downloaded files go to the Downloads folder.
